Andromeda
The winner of Young Jazz 2012 in Denmark was the trio Andromeda:
"The second band of the evening (Andromeda) went on stage with a clear vision, an original concept, an original crew and an original band sound. A trio that played with tremendous dynamics, humor and authority - not just as a group, but you impressed us with each of your respective instruments. As an orchestra Andromeda spans far: From galactic anarchy to good melody"
That was the verdict of the jury on Andromeda that was read aloud by jury member Jacob Drong. The originality can not take from Christian Balvig (piano), Rasmus Kjærgård Lund (tuba) - and Morten Skøtt (drums) They have something as rare as a piano trio with tuba, where all the songs are based on cosmic phenomena: From the relativity of background radiation from the Big Bang, to the dying gas helium. The latter number was introduced with a high pitched voice after inhaling, yes, helium.
